What on Earth is Diatomaceous Earth?
DE is the fossilized remains of diatoms, or single-celled hard-shelled algae. DE can be used to get rid of bedbugs, ants, silverfish, ticks, and many other-hard shelled insects.
How Does DE Work?
DE kills fleas without harming your pet! Under the microscope, you can see that these diatoms have very sharp edges. And it is these edges that scrape and cut through the outer shells (exoskeletons) of pests like fleas, bedbugs, etc. The result: dehydration – but with no harm to you or your pet.
Applying DE to Your Pet
Externally:
Lightly rub the powder into your pet’s fur, and down into the skin. And because the ‘fleas you see’ are only part of the problem, also rub DE into their bedding areas. Cautions: Remember to avoid the eyes (yours and your pet’s) and also avoid breathing the dust. Some people find it drying to their skin and wear gloves.
