Why Feed Beef Heart?

Beef heart is classified as a muscle meat in raw feeding (not a secreting organ), but it offers unique nutritional value.

It naturally provides:

  • Taurine — especially important for cats to support heart and eye health

  • High-quality, bioavailable protein

  • B vitamins for energy metabolism

  • Iron and zinc for overall vitality

For cats in particular, taurine-rich foods like heart are a beneficial part of a balanced raw feeding plan.

How to Use

When building a DIY raw diet, beef heart can replace a portion of the muscle meat component. It can make up to 5–15% of the total diet as part of protein rotation.

As a topper or treat:

  • Dogs: Add 1–2 oz per meal depending on size

  • Cats: Offer small cubes or mix finely chopped pieces into meals

If new to your pet, introduce gradually and rotate proteins regularly.

Beef heart is not a complete meal. A balanced raw diet should also include secreting organs (like liver and kidney), edible bone or a calcium source, and additional muscle meats to maintain proper nutrient balance.
