Frequently Asked Questions

Where Are the Chaga Mushrooms Sourced?

The chaga mushrooms used in Myco-Biome are Canadian-sourced, either grown in a private forest in Maritime Canada or freshly foraged in British Columbia, ensuring high-quality and responsibly sourced ingredients.

What Are the Proven Benefits of Chaga Mushrooms?

Chaga mushrooms (Inonotus obliquus) are a well-researched medicinal mushroom known for their exceptionally high antioxidant content. Research shows chaga contains beneficial compounds such as beta-glucans, polyphenols, triterpenes, and melanin, which help support immune function, cellular health, and the body’s natural defense systems. Studies in both human and animal health suggest chaga mushrooms may help reduce oxidative stress, support a balanced inflammatory response, and promote overall wellness. Because of its powerful antioxidant profile, chaga is commonly used for long-term immune and cellular support.

Why Is Chaga Offered as a Liquid Extract Instead of a Powder?

Chaga mushrooms need to be extracted for their beneficial compounds to become bioavailable. Liquid extracts preserve the bioactive compounds released during extraction and are easier for the body to absorb than powders, since they don’t require digestion. This allows the beneficial properties of chaga to be absorbed more efficiently.

Why Are Only Fruiting Bodies Used in These Mushrooms?

The fruiting body is the part of the mushroom traditionally used for medicinal purposes. Many mycelium products are grown on substrates like rice or oats, which can remain in the final product. Using only fruiting bodies helps ensure a pure mushroom extract without added substrates, and aligns with traditional herbal practices that rely on the fruiting body for its naturally occurring beneficial compounds.

Is Chaga Recommended for Pets With Kidney Issues?

Chaga naturally contains oxalates, and some chaga products can be very high in oxalate content. However, the chaga tincture used here has been tested and shown to be very low in oxalates, measuring approximately 1.39 mg of oxalates per ml. For context, a 25 kg (55 lb) pet would receive about 3.8 mg of oxalates per day from a standard daily dose of the chaga tincture. That said, many experts recommend avoiding high-oxalate foods or supplements for pets with kidney disease, oxalate crystals, or a history of stones. If your pet has kidney concerns, it’s best to consult with your veterinarian first, or consider using turkey tail extract instead, which does not carry the same oxalate considerations.
