Product Description

Single-Protein Muscle Meat for Dogs & Cats

Back 2 Basics Bison features single-animal bison muscle meat in convenient 1 lb portions, making it easy to build and portion a balanced DIY raw diet for dogs and cats. Lean, nutrient-dense, and rich in flavor, bison is an excellent red meat option for rotational feeding.

Our bison is responsibly sourced from Alberta and minimally processed to maintain its natural integrity β€” simply thaw and serve.

Why Feed Bison?

Bison is a lean red meat that provides:

  • High-quality, bioavailable protein

  • Naturally occurring iron and zinc

  • Rich flavor for enhanced palatability

  • Novel protein variety for rotation

As a muscle meat component, bison forms the foundation of a raw feeding plan but must be paired with additional elements for nutritional balance.

How to Use

In a balanced DIY raw diet, muscle meat typically makes up approximately 80% of the total meal, alongside:

  • 10% edible bone or a calcium source

  • 5% liver

  • 5% other secreting organ

Bison can replace other muscle meats within this ratio as part of regular protein rotation.

It may also be added in smaller amounts as a protein boost to pre-made raw, kibble, or cooked diets β€” adjust other components as needed to maintain balance.

This product contains muscle meat only and is not a complete meal on its own.

Serving Tips

For less mess, remove packaging while frozen and thaw in a sealed container. Prefer to thaw in the packaging? No problemβ€”just place it in a container to catch any potential leaks.

This product does not contain bones or organ meats, so it's not considered nutritionally complete on its own. To build a balanced diet, be sure to:

  • Add a calcium source (such as ground eggshell, bone powder, or raw meaty bones)
  • Include organ meats or a multi-vitamin supplement designed for raw feeding
  • Consider adding Omega-3s (especially for white meats and pork, but still beneficial here) from oily fish or an Omega-3 supplement
  • Supplement with fiber as neededβ€”pureed veggies, pumpkin powder, or sprouted seed blends can support digestion

Remember: There’s no such thing as a complete and balanced foodβ€”only a complete and balanced diet. Variety and thoughtful supplementation are key to supporting your pet’s long-term health.
