Whole-prey feeding means feeding from the whole animal. The distinction is that anything else is a recipe. Whole-prey feeding typically relies on the nutrition provided by one animal, without the need to source meats from several different animals, with the exception of smaller prey like rabbit, duck and chicken.A prey animal naturally provides muscle meat, organs, bone, connective tissue and other nutrient-rich components, each contributing different nutrients to the diet. That strong, distinctive tripe smell is completely normal. Green tripe is very different from the cleaned, processed tripe you may see prepared for human consumption. The tripe we may be used to seeing for ourselves lacks many of the characteristics nature gave it due to extensive cleaning and processing. The smell you notice comes largely from the natural fermentation process within the stomach. The aroma can also vary slightly from batch to batch depending on the animal, its diet and other natural factors. Stronger-smelling tripe does not necessarily mean there is more tripe or that it is more beneficial to the dog.

We recommend rotating it with red meats such as beef, bison or lamb, along with seafood such as sardines, herring or salmon, to provide a wider spectrum of naturally occurring nutrients over time. If seafood is not regularly included in your dog’s rotation, we would recommend adding an appropriate source of omega-3s through food or supplementation.

Because Real Raw is made from whole, natural animal ingredients, slight variations in appearance, texture and aroma are completely normal.The colour of the meat, amount of visible fat, texture of the organs and strength of the tripe’s aroma may vary from batch to batch. These differences can be influenced by factors such as the animal’s diet, age and natural composition. Unlike highly processed pet foods, whole-prey raw food is not designed to look identical in every package.A stronger tripe smell, darker organ meat or variations in texture do not necessarily indicate a problem. Because this is a whole-prey food, there can also be natural variations in the intensity of smells from organs such as the pancreas, gallbladder and sometimes the liver.To us, these aromas can occasionally smell as though the food is off, but this can be a natural occurrence and does not necessarily affect the quality of the food. The bone used in Real Raw is raw and ground into the food from the same animal. Bone is an important part of prey-model feeding because it naturally provides minerals including calcium and phosphorus. You may sometimes see larger pieces of bone, especially from larger animals such as beef and bison. Raw bone is very different from cooked bone and is a natural component of a prey-based raw diet. Cooked bones should not be fed.

Real Raw Chicken is portioned into convenient ½-lb frozen patties, making it easy to store, thaw and serve. Each patty combines whole chicken with grass-fed beef organs and 20% grass-fed green beef tripe. Because it is made with whole-prey ingredients, the patties may naturally vary somewhat in colour, texture and appearance. For portioning, feed according to your dog’s individual needs, including their weight, age, activity level and body condition. As a general starting point, adult dogs often eat around 2–3% of their ideal body weight per day, while puppies, highly active dogs and dogs with different metabolic needs may require more or less. Divide the daily amount into one or more meals and adjust over time based on your dog’s body condition, activity level and appetite.
